What a busy month we’ve had in Year 6! We loved finding out more about the Civil Rights Movement and the key figures that spearheaded the quest for civil rights in America, so much so that Isaiah, Arif, Areesha and Sahara were able to re-write the famous ‘I have a dream’ speech and tailor it to life in Thomas Buxton and Tower Hamlets. Fantastic work!
We had a great time on Black History Month Art Day and studied the work of Yinka Shonibare, an English-Nigerian artist who aims to meld different cultures with his art. Check out some of our work inspired by him below!
Some excellent design reflecting ‘Happiness’.
Some beautiful designs.
Working hard!
Intricate work.
Doesn’t know I took this!
Looking very pleased with himself – and so he should, some inspired design work!
These are some examples of our finished work!
Last but by no means least, we all had a great time dancing and interacting with the African drummers, even some of the teachers joined in (Mr Downs was not invited – perhaps wisely!).
I think we all definitely learnt a lot – what do you think?
