Diwali Diary

Happy Diwali

Read Al-hamim’s fantastic Diwali diary, written from the point of view of a young Hindu…

Dear diary,

Today was the best Diwali ever! First, I gave some old clothes to charity because my it was my first ever special day.  Next I changed into my new clothes.

Then, I got some sweets for my cousins, neighbours, friends and other special people. After that, I went to my cousin’s house to have fun and eat food.  Furthermore, the grown-ups told the children some interesting stories.

At night time we went to an amazing  party outside. When we joined the party I saw loads of people. For a very special celebration we had a fireworks party. I was so thrilled and amazed I couldn’t stop smiling. At the end of the day I saw a puppet show about Rama and Sita.

Watch the video that inspired Al-hamim and find our more about Diwali here…

Remember, remember!

guy_fawkes

Here’s the old poem we read about why there are bonfires and fireworks on November 5th…

    Remember, remember!
    The fifth of November,
    The Gunpowder treason and plot;
    I know of no reason
    Why the Gunpowder treason
    Should ever be forgot!
    Guy Fawkes and his companions
    Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
    All up alive.
    Threescore barrels, laid below,
    To prove old England’s overthrow.
But, by God’s providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!
